Itinerary
Day 1: Shanghai-Yangon via Kunming

Take morning flight from Shanghai to Yangon via Kunming. Upon arrival to YANGON Airport, you will be welcomed by your Asian Trails guide and transfer to hotel for check in. Mingalabar and welcome to Myanmar! The former capital Yangon, also known as Rangoon, remains Myanmar largest city and continues to be the country's commercial hub and gateway for most of its international visitors. Its colonial background and religious legacy make it one of the most mesmerizing and genuine places in all of Southeast Asia. No Myanmar expedition can be considered truly great if it’s lacking a visit to the legendary Shwedagon Pagoda. Ready for an amazing experience? The visual delights present there alone, are worth the trip. Witness the colors transform on the 100-meter chedi which is literally enclosed in over 40 tons of gold leaf. You will start at the eastern staircase where you will find a row of shops at the base of the temple selling various religious items. Here you will find monks robes, alms bowls, offerings, incense and other unique Buddhist objects. As your browse the stalls your guide will explain the use and rituals of Myanmar’s Buddhist people. Shwedagon is largely considered to be the most important religious site for the Burmese; most visitors report that the trip is extremely memorable and still etched into their minds.Overnight in Yangon.

Day 2: Yangon – Circular Train and Trishaw visit to Dhala

Today you will delve in to Myanmar's culture with a full day excursion around Yangon. Set off with your local guide and transfer to Yangon’s Central Station where you will board the “Circular Train”. This slow-moving train is used as a commuter train by main locals as it circles the outskirts of the city and stops in dozens of neighbourhoods. As you travel around, enjoy the buzz on board as vendors hop on and off and look out the windows to get a clear overview of the city (train ride is about 20 minutes, please take note that the trains are very simple, and used by many locals during the day). Disembark in the suburbs and visit the bustling market where locals come to buy colorful fruits, fresh vegetables and chat with the friendly vendors. Transfer back to town by car and take a short rest before your afternoon excursion. This afternoon we will use another local transportation method to explore Dhala, a small village on the opposite bank of the Yangon River. A multi-level ferry shuttles locals back and forth between the village and the city and we'll join them for the 15 minute journey across the water. Its a fascinating way to see the contrast between the modern city and local suburbs. Upon reaching Dhala travel by trishaw through the side streets, stopping to meet with friendly locals or explore the monasteries and markets in the area. Return via ferry to Yangon in the late afternoon and transfer on to your hotel. Overnight in Yangon.[B] OPTIONAL: PICNIC IN THE ROYAL PARK Head to Kandawgyi Park, a favorite place for local families to gather to play or relax after work or on the weekends. Its beautiful lake and views of Shwedagon Pagoda make it an ideal place for a picnic. Arrive as the sun is setting, casting its rays on an illuminated Shwedagon Pagoda, and head to your picnic location where a mat and food has been laid out. Snack on delicious dishes, enjoy a glass of local beer or wine from one of the country’s vineyards and interact with the local families.
